Wolves held Chelsea to a 0-0 draw in the Premier League today.
Bruno Lage’s side put in a good performance in the first-half, but were disappointing in the second.
A point against Chelsea is probably a decent result all things considered.
Ultimately, this is a side that could well challenge for the Premier League title come the end of the season.
Having said that, the Blues were without a number of players today. News broke before kick-off that Chelsea had actually requested the game to be postponed.
One thing is for sure though after today’s game – Wolves are seriously tough to beat.
And that was very much the impression Thomas Tuchel gave after the game.
He was actually pleased to leave Molineux with a 0-0 result in the end, saying: “We struggled in the first half after a very strong start in the first five minutes, to adapt to Wolves’ shape and we were a bit late in all the challenges. The reaction in the second half was very, very good and was a good performance.
“A 0-0 at Wolves… we have another clean sheet so a lot of positive things. It is hard to create chances, it was clear before the game that it is hard to score goals here, this is clear. So I think to analyse this game isolated and purely this game, I am absolutely OK.”
Thomas Tuchel verdict may indicate emerging Wolves reputation
Tuchel seems quite satisfied with a 0-0 draw, and it is clear Wolves are starting to forge a bit of a reputation.
Wolves are certainly no longer the soft touch they were last term.
The team are very well drilled and hard to break down, which is refreshing.
What is very disappointing though, is the cutting edge is miles off at the moment.
Wolves do need to increase the pool size of defenders in January. But there is a strong case for Fosun to get Lage one or two new attackers too.
At the moment, getting that nice blend of defence and attack is Lage’s biggest task at Wolves.
