‘They were better’: Pep Guardiola says Wolves were way better than City at one thing

Wolves managed to hand Manchester City their first Premier League loss this season at Molineux on Saturday afternoon.

A perfectly constructed game-plan that saw Man City baffled and out of ideas in terms of beating the Wolves low block.

However when they won the ball back, Gary O’Neil‘s men lit up the Molineux with blistering counter attacks.

Transitioning from defence to attack they were class, with the plan clearly for Pedro Neto to drive down the wing and cross into the box.

It worked, as both goals came through this method, which Pep Guardiola reluctantly applauded Wolves for.

Guardiola praises Wolves

Speaking in his post-game press conference as reported by Nathan Judah, Guardiola was asked to give his views on how Wolves did.

To this he responded: “Congratulations to Wolves, they defended really well”.

Guardiola began, before adding he was impressed and admitted Wolves were better than his Citizens in one aspect: “They were better in transitions than us.”

In the transition three players were key, Guardiola singled them all out for individual praise.

“[Hee-Chan] Hwang, [Matheus] Cunha, [Pedro] Neto so strong & difficult to play against”.

On Nunes’ return to Molineux

One side story on a brilliant day for Wolves was Matheus Nunes‘ return to Molineux after his controversial exit in the summer.

Nunes however was hooked off at half-time, much to the delight of the Wolves supporters.

On Nunes being substituted off, Guardiola admitted that it was a tactical move as he said: “I needed someone more dynamic & creativity”.

Not a happy return for the Portuguese midfielder who definitely had an afternoon to forget in-front of his old fans.
