The starting XI Wolves should field vs Liverpool as suspended Andre replaced

Wolves will look to defeat Liverpool for the second time in the space of a few days, and changes to Rob Edwards’ starting XI are to be expected.

The Old Gold pulled off an unlikely victory against the Reds on Tuesday night as the two teams met at Molineux in the Premier League.

Andre’s deflected strike late on saw Wolves steal all three points, which followed a great victory over Aston Villa just days before.

Wolves meet Liverpool again tonight in the fifth-round of the FA Cup, and Rob Edwards has branded it the club’s biggest game of the season.

And here are some changes that the boss ought to consider making.

Sam Johnstone will come in after Edwards stated Jose Sa has an ongoing ankle issue. It’s possible that without the ankle problem, Sa might have played given his great form of late, despite Johnstone playing the two previous FA Cup games.

At the back, Yerson Mosquera should replace Matt Doherty in the interest of rotation, and Santiago Bueno and Ladislav Krejci should keep their places.

Hugo Bueno started on the bench on Tuesday and his freshness may well be needed on the left side. Jackson Tchatchoua played well in the last game and would deserve to keep his place.

Andre is suspended for this game, so one change will be enforced.

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde feels like the best man to bring in, with his ability to carry the ball and break lines.

Mateus Mane may be in need of a rest, but it feels like Edwards won’t rotate him for Wolves’ best game of the season to date.

Joao Gomes was superb on Tuesday and fans will hope for more of the same tonight.

Tolu Arokodare earned praise from Ally McCoist after the impact he made coming off the bench. His physicality unsettled Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate, so Edwards might want that from the start this time. Perhaps a front two of him and Adam Armstrong will be the way to go.

Wolves (3-5-2): Johnstone/Mosquera, S.Bueno, Krejci/Tchatchoua, J.Gomes, Bellegarde, Mane, H.Bueno/Armstrong, Arokodare.

Rodrigo Gomes impact off the bench

Rodrigo Gomes has come off the bench and scored in each of Wolves’ last two games.

There is therefore a strong argument to start him tonight. However, the verdict Edwards gave about Rodrigo suggests he may look to use him as an impact substitute once again, since that has clearly worked well.

There will be some tired legs in the second-half, so sending on Rodrigo to stretch Liverpool could be a good idea if Wolves need a goal.

Rodrigo will be feeling confident after his exploits against Villa and Liverpool, so hopefully he’ll again make a big contribution.
