‘Slightly shambolic’: What Nasser Djiga did on the touchline before his Wolves debut left commentators stunned

Wolves were excellent against Bournemouth during Saturday’s important matchup at the Vitality Stadium. The Old Gold came away deserving 1-0 winners and boosted their chances of remaining in the Premier League.

Helped by Matheus Cunha’s first-half strike and Illia Zabarnyi’s red card, the Old Gold put in one of their best performances of the season.

Lifting their chances of Premier League survival, Vitor Pereira will be delighted to head back to the Midlands with all three points.

And it wasn’t just the result that was positive, after a busy January transfer window from Wolves, another player was handed their debut, but his introduction didn’t quite go to plan.

Nasser Djiga debut delayed for strange reason

Leading 1-0 late in the second half, Pereira decided to withdraw Santiago Bueno after the Uruguayan had received an early booking.

The Wolves manager hoped to bring January Deadline Day signing Nasser Djiga on after 70 minutes but had to wait for the young defender to be introduced after a ring got stuck on his finger.

The 22-year-old left his manager, teammates and supporters waiting while he attempted to remove the piece of jewellery.

Unable to come on until the ring had been removed, Bueno was forced to return to the pitch for another minute or two.

Commentator couldn’t believe it

Taken back by Djiga’s unreadiness for his big moment, Now Sports’ commentator Gary Taphouse couldn’t believe what he was seeing.

“Well, this is slightly shambolic,” the commentator said after seeing Djiga wrestling with his ring on the Vitality Stadium’s touchline.

Given the importance of the match, especially with less than 20 minutes to play, Djiga should have been ready to come on and help his new teammates, instead, he was distracted by an item of jewellery that he shouldn’t even have been wearing on a matchday.

Pereira won’t want to see a repeat of this next time out.
