Sky Sports pundit gives instant reaction to Wolves’ VAR decision

Wolves were outraged after another VAR decision went against them on Saturday night against Newcastle.

On a wet night in the Molineux, Wolves and Newcastle played out a draw which probably left both happy.

Wolves scored twice through Mario Lemina and Hee-Chan Hwang in the 2-2 draw, but will probably be more concerned after Neto was stretchered off after pulling up and holding his hamstring.

In the game, Newcastle were awarded a penalty and as it often does these days, the decision was highly debated.

Hwang gave it away, however upon replays, it didn’t seem to be a penalty, so Karen Carney had her say at half-time.

Karen Carney gives verdict

Speaking at half-time on Sky Sports, Karen Carney admitted she wasn’t convinced that Newcastle should’ve been awarded a penalty.

“I don’t think it was a penalty, I think as you say he’s tried to make the kick he’s tried to slow down at that last minute but it’s not overturned so the referee had the final say and VAR went with it.”

It was a very harsh decision and a difficult one to call for the referee but it is frustrating that every close decision tends to go against Wolves.

Was it a penalty against Wolves?

The real answer these days is who knows?

A hard one to call for the referee upon first viewing at full match speed, but when slowed down and replays were viewed it seemed quite clearly not a penalty.

Surely although it wasn’t a clear and obvious error as Shay Given repeatedly pointed out, VAR should be advising the referee to have a look if there is a decision which isn’t quite clear.

A draw was probably a fair result, but given the multiple times that decisions have gone against Wolves this season, it is hard to think where we could be in the league with a few remedied decisions.
