Sky pundits Jamie Redknapp and Jermain Defoe disagree over controversial incident in Liverpool vs Wolves

Wolves have lost their latest Premier League game against Liverpool – with one decision dividing the Sky Sports studio.

Wolves could not continue their good form at Anfield, but there is frustration about the way today’s 2-1 defeat panned out.

One of the biggest talking points of the game was when Jose Sa took down Luis Diaz for a Liverpool penalty in the first-half.

Sa took Diaz down, but replays showed there was a very small amount of contact.

It was a decision that ultimately cost Wolves, who were unable to come back despite a goal in the second-half by Matheus Cunha.

During half-time, Jamie Redknapp and Jerman Defoe gave their verdicts on the incident but could not agree.

Diaz was taken down by Sa, but it was what happened just before that caught the eye.

The Colombia international had made contact with Emmanuel Agbadou to make the space, before Sa made the challenge.

Some feel Wolves should actually have had a free-kick for a foul by Diaz before the challenge from Sa.

Redknapp said: “I personally think he gives him enough for it to be a free-kick. I just feel there’s a nudge.

Defoe: “I think it’s clever, you have to make contact, I like that.

Redknapp: “I would say that Agbadou has to do better, it’s a poor piece of defending, he was so good up until that point as well.”

Wolves stung by poor officiating against Liverpool

Wolves were very unfortunate to lose today against Liverpool and the level of officiating was poor.

People will likely have different opinions about the penalty decision just like Redknapp and Defoe.

But overall, referee Simon Hooper made several questionable calls and failed to book a number of Liverpool players for fouls on transitions. He also booked Wolves players for remonstrating.

Wolves were not quite at the level required today at Anfield, with a lack of quality in the final third stinging Pereira’s side. But the job is made all the more difficult when the standard of officiating isn’t up to scratch.
