Wolves’ hopes of securing European football are all-but over, after the team fell to a sorry 3-0 defeat to Brighton yesterday.
Bruno Lage had hoped for a much improved performance against the Seagulls at Molineux.
They went into the game after back-to-back 1-0 defeats.
But Wolves put in arguably their worst display of the season against Graham Potter’s side.
European football was still attainable despite poor results in the last couple of games.
But too many players appeared to be playing as though they were already on holiday.
There was a lack of quality on the ball, players shirking challenges and generally just making everything easy for the visitors.
Wolves did not have a shot on target until Willy Boly’s header in the 85th minute.
There was a lack of threat all afternoon, and the defence was all at sea.
Frankly, it was a shambolic showing from the hosts, and Lage summed it up after the game by saying (Wolves official): “When you come from this performance that we gave for the 90 minutes, there’s nothing much to say. We didn’t come to play, we just watched Brighton play.”
Many fans had already left by the time Yves Bissouma added a third goal. That then prompted more people to stream out of Molineux.
These were sad scenes, scenes that would have been difficult to imagine only a few weeks back.
Hopefully, Fosun watched the afternoon unfold yesterday and are now ready to take action.
Fosun will surely act this summer, after Brighton batter sorry Wolves 3-0
Yesterday’s performance was unacceptable.
There was so much riding on the game, and there wasn’t a single player who gave a good performance in the end.
There were just so many errors yesterday. That, combined with a lack of intensity in comparison to Brighton, was bound to result in a heavy defeat.
Wolves have had so many good chances to keep pace with the teams above them.
But the club have come up short, and Fosun need to react this summer by providing a good level of investment. They surely will, given the lack of a real overhaul over the past couple of years.
All areas of the team need addressing, and hopefully this result and performance will have highlighted that to the owners.
