Rob Edwards shares what he told Jorgen Strand Larsen after ironic cheers from Wolves fans

Wolves fell to a 4-1 defeat against Manchester United, and there were awkward scenes as Jorgen Strand Larsen was substituted in the second-half.

It is four defeats in four for Rob Edwards, and Wolves remain stuck on two points – 13 adrift of safety.

Wolves needed to respond after the atrocious performance against Nottingham Forest.

Who was the most disappointing Wolves performer in the 4-1 defeat to Man United? 🐺🔴

Yet another dismal evening for Wolverhampton Wanderers 😠

But there was yet another abject performance from the Old Gold, who were woeful at both ends of the pitch.

The defending had improved slightly since Edwards came in, but the backline was all at sea against United. Indeed, Edwards said it was like watching a kid’s game. And, once again, there was nothing to the attack.

And Wolves made their feelings about Jorgen Strand Larsen known in the 69th minute, when they sarcastically cheered his substitution.

After the game, Edwards spoke about the situation.

Strand Larsen has been drawing a lot of criticism in recent weeks.

Wolves have been toothless in attack, and many are holding him responsible, as the focal point of the team.

It’s just one Premier League goal all season for Strand Larsen, and as he was taken off against United, many fans inside Molineux cheered – and the striker obviously noticed.

Edwards was seen chatting with Strand Larsen after the full-time whistle, and the manager has revealed what he said to him.

He said (via Wolves official): “He’ll be disappointed. Obviously, he’s a proud man, and he’s a very good player, but like a number of the boys, or every football player, you can have some difficult moments, and you can lack confidence at times. He’s trying really hard, and the things that he says and things that he does around the training ground, around the dressing room, are really good. He cares. So, it will hurt him, and I’d love the fans to support the players. I would love that, but I understand their frustration.

“I just said, ‘Look, stay positive and don’t react now’, because it will hurt him. He’s proud. He’s one of the lads that was really speaking before the game, in the huddle in the changing room, and he’s really passionate. He spoke really well. He’s trying, and I thought against Aston Villa that he was brilliant, he really was. It was a difficult night tonight. It’s difficult now but keep your head down.”

Strand Larsen must respond in the right way

It was an uncomfortable moment for Strand Larsen, who will probably feel as though that reaction last night was unfair.

He may be right – certainly, he is not the sole reason for Wolves having so little bite.

Was the reaction to JSL being substituted vs Man United warranted? 🤔

It was certainly not a good evening for the Norwegian

But as one of the best players, fans expect much more than what he’s been showing. Unfortunately, Strand Larsen isn’t doing his job, which is to score goals. There has also been criticism about him not winning enough aerial duels and not pressing enough.

The Norwegian must now respond in the right way.

If the 25-year-old gets another chance against Arsenal, then he simply has to have a greater influence.
