Rob Edwards’ post-Brighton comments were actually refreshing, but Wolves boss is in trouble

It was another dismal afternoon for Wolves in the Premier League on Saturday, and Rob Edwards let rip after the game with Brighton.

Wanderers fell to a 3-0 defeat to Brighton at the Amex Stadium, giving another dreadful display.

It was a fixture that most people didn’t have much optimism about, with Brighton having Wolves’ number in recent years.

But some still hoped that the shame of last weekend’s draw with Sunderland would have prompted an improvement. Or at the very least, a bit more fight.

But there was to be none of that, as Wolves produced an abject display at the Amex.

Brighton didn’t need to get out of second gear to win, and after the game Rob Edwards rightly slammed the players.

Speaking after straight after the game, Edwards said (via E&S): “Yes, definitely. Some of them have got to go.

“We’re bottom of the league, it’s been embarrassing.

“They’ve got to go. Have I not been clear with that?”

He added: “We know there’s going to be a lot of change.

Refreshingly honest or uncalled for? 😬

“At the moment, yes, it’s difficult. You’re coming to a team that is already light years ahead of you anyway, so you know it’s going to be a difficult day.

“We have a start like we did. We knew we were going to have to be at our max to get anything from it.”

Wolves conceded within the first minute yesterday, and were 2-0 down within five.

Andre’s poor pass led to the first goal, and shocking marking saw Lewis Dunk make it two for the hosts. Why Joao Gomes was picking up the Brighton captain is anyone’s guess.

Wolves then barely threatened for the entire game, while lots of players just ambled about the pitch.

Edwards is far from blameless for the result. But he was right to actually call out the players this time, and it’s perhaps something he should have done after previous defeats.

The accountability is admirable, because many have simply not been good enough all season. A lot of them have not looked like they’ve cared.

Thankfully, change is coming soon and fans will no longer be insulted on a weekly basis by the current crop.

It has to be said though, while Edwards should be commended for his strong reaction after yesterday’s defeat, he himself needs to show signs of improvement in the last two games.

Yes, he is working with a terrible squad.

But at the moment it’s hard to get on board with the idea of him overseeing the summer rebuild.
