Wolves’ defeat to Aston Villa was not all doom and gloom, as the Wanderers did give themselves a good showing.
However, with the position they are currently in, that does not matter as much as getting results.
Boubacar Kamara’s thunderous strike was the sole goal that separated both sides, and a moment of magic was the only way Villa were going to break down Wolves.
It took a screamer for Aston Villa to break down a resilient Wolves defence 🚀
The Old Gold put in an excellent defensive shift, with Marc Albrighton pinpointing a tactic that made life difficult for Unai Emery’s side.
And while Rob Edwards admits his disappointment at the loss, he has mentioned four things that he will take away as positives.
Rob Edwards believes Wolves are heading in the right direction

Optimism has been hard to find at Molineux this season, but Rob Edwards believes things are close to turning around.
The Wanderers were perhaps unlucky to lose to Aston Villa, but it was yet another game where they rued the lack of quality in their squad.
The head coach was left happy with the performance but obviously disappointed with the result.
Rob Edwards has now picked out five things he felt were positive about his Wolves side in the West Midlands derby.
Edwards said after the game, “We showed intensity and fight. We didn’t let our heads go down and continued to push. We were organised and limited them – they can open teams up but didn’t do that today.
“There was a lot to like today apart from the result. We kept going right to the end, and I think the supporters could see that. I hate losing; we all do, but we’re going the right way and need to believe that.”
The verdict is in for the Old Gold players…

Overall, the head coach felt the positives were:
- Intensity
- Fight
- Not giving up
- Organisation
And the Wolves boss is correct. Those characteristics were evident, and that will be a boost heading into Wednesday’s game against Nottingham Forest.
The timing of the fixture could also be a huge benefit for the Wanderers.

Wolves can benefit from quick turnaround of games

It is not long until Wolves are back in action, with Nottingham Forest set to travel to Molineux midweek.
Typically, games in quick succession can be a negative – physically and mentally – but in this case, it could benefit Rob Edwards.
The result was not what he wanted, but the performance is something to build on, and the rhythm found against Aston Villa can now be used against the Tricky Trees.
That momentum is best maintained when teams are allowed to carry it on, and it will not be lost due to a long wait between matches.
The groundwork laid at Villa Park has to be shown against Sean Dyche’s side, because if not, the Old Gold may find themselves back at ground zero.
