Mateus Mane earned his first start of the season for Wolves after months of calls for him to be given a chance.

The 18-year-old did not take long to prove those fans right, as immediately from the start of the game, his energy and courage were evident.

Mane took more shots than any other Wolves player, showing he was not afraid of trying to make things happen, and that has gone down well with Rob Edwards.

Speaking after the game (via Wolves), Edwards spoke highly of Mateus Mane, saying, “Mane I thought was excellent throughout the game, so him moving inside then caused them a lot of problems, and we found him a lot in between the lines, and he was able to create.

“I thought his energy was brilliant, his running was brilliant, but he was brave; he took the ball; he was a real shining light in what was obviously a difficult period for the club at the moment.

“He took risks, he had shots, he dribbled, he turned and played forward. But not only that, he showed real desire to run and fight as well.”

The young talent has been a player fans have wanted to see more of for quite some time, but both supporters and the player have had to wait patiently.

However, Rob Edwards wanted to wait for the right time to hand him a start, and the head coach was left impressed.

“We always want to use young players if we can, especially players that have come through. But he’s earned it, and then he showed today that he deserved to be out there,” he continued to say.

The Wolves head coach has spoken about the pathway from the academy to the first team, and Mane will be the example for rising talent at Molineux.

It was not just Edwards who was left impressed, as Liverpool fans had quite a lot to say about Mateus Mane.

Mateus Mane should now be a Wolves regular

At just 18 years old, Mateus Mane is one of the most energetic and electric players in the Wolves squad, and if you are good enough, you are old enough.

The winger always looks for a positive action, and the Old Gold have been crying out for a player to provide that.

Early in Edwards’ tenure, it looked as though Jean-Ricner Bellegarde could be that player, but his injury has opened the door for another to fill those shoes.

Mateus Mane simply has to start games going forward, as you really cannot see where the Wanderers can find joy up top otherwise.
