Rob Edwards makes one big new plea to his Wolves players after gut-wrenching Arsenal loss

Wolves suffered a heartbreaking defeat against Arsenal on Saturday night, and Rob Edwards has urged his players to tactically improve in one area.

Wolves fell to a 2-1 loss at the Emirates Stadium, with a late own goal by Yerson Mosquera stinging the visitors.

It was a gutting end to the game, because Wolves had genuinely put in a really decent performance away at a great side.

Wolves thought they had snatched a point when Tolu Arokodare equalised in injury-time.

Despite defeat, there were plenty of positives to take away from that Wolves performance.

But unfortunately, a cross from the Arsenal right side from Bukayo Saka was turned into the Wolves net by Mosquera, who was under pressure to clear from Gabriel Jesus.

Fans have praised Wolves for their performance, with Alan Shearer also acknowledging the display.

Wolves now have to try and replicate this kind of level going forwards – but Rob Edwards is adamant his side need to fix up when it comes to doing one thing.

It was a valiant effort from Wolves down in north London.

It was also going to be tough to get a result, and to come within a whisker really does make the loss hard to stomach.

But hopefully the players will take some positives going into the next game with Brentford.

Edwards cut a forlorn figure after the game which was understandable. And in his post-match interview, the Wolves manager stated that his side simply have to improve when it comes to stopping crosses.

He admitted (via Wolves official): “We started pushing, we pressed, we made changes, got back into it, but this is why we are where we are. We’ve got to value stopping the cross. We’ve got to defend the goal, and we’re not doing that well enough.

Wolves fans, was the 2-1 defeat to Arsenal the hardest loss to stomach so far this season? 🤔

“I know what we’ve come into is difficult. We’re going the right way about it. It is a positive tonight, apart from the result, we’re in a results business, and that’s why I’m so disappointed in there.

“I’ve told the lads as well, because stuff we spoke about before the game, the basics, stop the cross, defend the cross. We’ve done it for almost 100 minutes. Do it for that last bit, we take something from the game, and we can build on it.”

Wolves must rectify crossing statistic

It was a real sickener to see Arsenal snatch the points right at the death yesterday.

Wolves really did deserve a point for their efforts. However, you cannot allow lapses against top sides in the Premier League. They will punish you.

We know that Wolves have conceded far too many goals this season.

But according to Stat Muse, Wanderers actually also lead the way for crosses conceded, with 89 in 16 games so far. This is 11 more than Leeds who are in second.

While Wolves have good height in their backline, allowing crosses into your own box time and time again is just asking for trouble.
