Paul Merson makes score prediction ahead of Brentford vs Wolves

Wolves are in London again this weekend to take on Brentford in the Premier League.

Steve Davis is looking for a big response following last weekend’s shocking capitulation against Leicester City.

Fans are very worried now about the fate of the club this season.

Wolves just can’t score goals, and the early defensive solidity is now nowhere to be seen.

The players feel as though they are lacking direction and also motivation, and it is shocking that a new head coach has not yet been named.

Bruno Lage was sacked almost one month ago now. Wanderers were unfortunate to miss out on Julen Lopetegui and Mick Beale. But Wolves official have undoubtedly handled the situation badly.

A testing trip to Brentford is next for Wolves, who have already been beaten four times in the capital.

Thomas Frank’s side have been decent so far this season, although they did lose their last game 4-0 against Aston Villa.

On paper it’s a game Wolves should really be looking to take three points from.

But few Wanderers fans will be feeling confident of a result given the performance levels over the past few weeks.

Someone else who is not confident that Wolves will get a result is Paul Merson.

The pundit believes wanderers’ woes will continue on Saturday.

Predicting a 2-0 win for Brentford, he said (Sportskeeda): “I don’t know how Wolves are going to win a match. They can’t score goals, and they can’t keep clean sheets either. It’s a worrying time for Wolves at the moment.

“I thought Brentford were unlucky the other day. If they play like they did against Chelsea, they should be able to win this game. There are a lot of teams like this in the Premier League at the moment. They’re a bag of revels. So many teams have been up and down, and I’m not sure who’s going to get relegated this season.”

Hard to argue with Paul Merson as Wolves prepare for Brentford trip

Merson doesn’t know how Wolves are going to win a football match. And that’s a view many Wolves supporters share themselves at the moment.

The goalscoring issue is widely known, but the standards when it comes to defending have really slipped in recent weeks.

One big underlying issue though is that there is a huge lack of confidence and belief at the moment.

It feels like if Wolves do manage to score, there is never a strong feeling that the players will definitely see the game out.

As Merson says, it’s a really worrying time at the minute.
