BBC Pundit Garth Crooks has named Wolves defender Nelson Semedo in his team of the week, praising the Portuguese fullback for his performance against Spurs.
Wolves are on a high from the emphatic result Gary O’Neil saw his side achieve at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The Old Gold battled for a hard-fought victory in North London, bouncing back from defeat to Brentford to knock down another top-six team this campaign.
Scorer of both goals, Joao Gomes, and star player Pedro Neto were the talk of the capital after Wolves’ flying visit, although they weren’t the only individuals from the win that received high praise.
It was a stellar day for O’Neil, who ensured his squad kept up with the traffic ahead of them in the top half of the table, as only three points separate 11th and 7th.
BBC pundit Garth Crooks named Gomes in his team of the week for his valiant brace against Spurs and also included another Wolves whiz in his best XI.
What Garth Crooks said about Nelson Semedo after Wolves win
As well as naming the Brazilian in his team of the week, Crooks made room for Nelson Semedo after the Portuguese defender’s heroics against Ange Postecoglou’s side.
The BBC pundit waxed lyrical over the 30-year-old’s contribution to the win and on his performances in general under O’Neil.
“Nelson Semedo deserved a mention as he was outstanding. His ability to get forward, but also defend with equal measure, was impressive.”

“He then produced the ball of the match in the second half for Pablo Sarabia, who should also have scored, and produced the block of the match to stop Dejan Kulusevski putting Spurs ahead.”
Crooks shared his opinion on how the manager lines up his defence has improved the game of his fullbacks, particularly Semedo who he crowned the Old Gold’s ‘most improved’ dynamo.
“Playing with a back three seems to have transformed Wolves, allowing Semedo to cascade forward almost at will. Arguably Wolves’ most improved player since his arrival.”
The stats show how well Nelson Semedo played against Spurs
In the 90 minutes that Semedo featured in North London, the former Barcelona defender impressed with his progressive play down the right flank.
Recording one key pass, one shot on target and creating one big chance for his side to score, the 30-year-old showed just how effective he can be in support of Neto on the right – statistics via Sofascore.
As well as providing his side with an additional attacking outlet, the £80k-a-week Portugal international was strong in defence also, making four clearances and two tackles to keep the threat from Spurs at bay.
It’s not always been easy for Semedo at Wolves however, it looks as though O’Neil is now getting the best out of his two versatile full-backs by fielding a back three and giving them license to roam.
