One Wolves star ’caused chaos’ against Bristol City and fans think he’s their ‘next Neto’

It took Wolves just 10 minutes to open the scoring against Bristol City during Saturday’s FA Cup tie.

The Old Gold travelled south to take on Liam Manning’s Robins in a match that saw new signing Emmanuel Agbadou make his Wolves debut.

Naming a strong starting lineup, Vitor Pereira is obviously taking this season’s FA Cup very seriously.

And for one player, Saturday’s match at Ashton Gate presented another chance to impress — an opportunity he grabbed with both hands.

Rodrigo Gomes ’caused chaos’ against Bristol City

Rodrigo Gomes joined from Braga last summer but wasn’t properly utilised under former manager Gary O’Neil.

The 21-year-old has become a regular under Pereira though and started again at right wing-back again against Bristol City.

Rayan Ait-Nouri opened the game’s scoring after 10 minutes and Gomes doubled his side’s tally just 11 minutes later.

Scott Twine pulled one back just before the half-time break but the away side were able to hold on.

Praising the youngster’s contributions, Express and Star journalist Liam Keen said Gomes’ performance ’caused The Robins chaos’.

Gomes’ goal against Bristol City was just his second of the season, but clearly flourishing in the Wolves manager’s system, fans will be expecting more of the same from a player some believe has the potential to surpass former Molineux-favourite, Pedro Neto.

Wolves fan label Rodrigo Gomes ‘next Pedro Neto’

Taking to social media, several Wolves fans praised their number 19’s showing and suggested he could fill some pretty big boots.

Neto joined Chelsea last summer in a deal worth over £50 million with Wolves unsurprisingly struggling to replace his output… That could be about to change though.

One fan, who thinks Gomes is destined to become ‘the next Neto’, still can’t believe Gary O’Neil didn’t play him more. Another fan predicted the 21-year-old could develop into an even better player than their old number seven.

Regardless of where Gomes goes from here, his recent performances are exciting fans and there is genuine belief the former Braga starlet will go from strength-to-strength under Pereira — a manager who clearly knows how to get the best out of the youngster.

Since arriving at Molineux from Portugal seven months, Gomes, who penned a five year deal with an option to add a further 12 months, has featured in 14 matches in all competitions.

He is likely to make his 15th appearance of the campaign when Wolves travel to Newcastle United on Wednesday.
