Wolves’ start to the 2024/25 Premier League season wasn’t ideal as Arsenal defeated Gary O’Neil’s side 2-0.
Goals from Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka ensured that Wolves lost their fourth opening day game in a row, a new record.
However, there were plenty of positives to take from the match. Rodrigo Gomes impressed once again as he made his competitive debut for Wolves and Matheus Cunha looked lively after coming off the bench.
Speaking after the game, O’Neil also hailed Toti Gomes and Yerson Mosquera after the two completed their first competitive game together as a centre-back duo.
Gary O’Neil impressed by Yerson Mosquera and Toti Gomes partnership

Wolves’ game at the Emirates was the first without former captain Max Kilman who departed in July.
No replacement has been signed yet, meaning both Toti Gomes and Mosquera were given the nod to start against Arsenal.
Despite Gomes having a difficult game versus the Gunners, his Colombian partner was one of the standout players.
After the game, O’Neil was full of praise for the duo and their performance. He said: “Pleased with Mosquera, was delighted with him and Toti as a partnership. In terms of carrying out the plan, I thought it was really positive.”
Yerson Mosquera could become a Wolves fan favourite

The jury was out for Mosquera after he returned from his loan spell at Villarreal. He had not been seen in an Old Gold shirt for almost three years, but against Arsenal, he has now shown how far he has developed in such a short space of time.
The centre-back was excellent throughout and will no doubt be a vital player for the club throughout the upcoming season.
If Wolves can bring in another top centre-back before the window closes to partner the Colombian, the backline could become as formidable as it was under Nuno Espirito Santo.
Hopefully, over the coming weeks, the right additions to help O’Neil finish as high as possible this season.
