‘Never cut the mustard’: Wolves fans sick to death of ‘garbage’ player for what he did in build-up to Luis Diaz’s opener

Despite Wolves starting the game well, it took Liverpool just 15 minutes to open the scoring at Anfield in Sunday’s important Premier League matchup.

The Old Gold knew Sunday’s game in Merseyside would have serious implications at both ends of the table, so they would’ve been desperate to put in a good performance.

However, although Vitor Pereira’s starting team against Liverpool, which included Joao Gomes coming in for Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, started brightly, the home team wasted no time taking the lead.

Wolves fans react to Pablo Sarabia’s role in Luis Diaz’s opener

Despite being on the attack, Wolves fell victim to a quick-fire counter-attack from Liverpool.

Diogo Jota held the ball up expertly before unleashing Luis Diaz. Although the Columbian opted to find Mo Salah, a poor defensive clearance from Toti Gomes put the ball back into the Liverpool’s number seven’s path, making a tap-in easy.

Even though the Old Gold’s defending was slapstick, Pablo Sarabia didn’t cover himself in glory. The Spaniard was at fault for losing the ball after playing a wayward pass to Nelson Semedo, and fans wasted little time digging the playmaker out.

Another fan also took to X, formerly Twitter, and sarcastically added: “Sarabia genius passing.”

Another weighed in and said: “People will blame Toti [Gomes] and [Jose] Sa, yes could have done better but Sarabia caused us to be caught in transition. No idea what on earth he was thinking about.”

Reddit User Stanley_Dards, questioned Sarabia’s inclusion: “Let’s get this over with – Sarabia over Bellegarde or Munetsi?”

The end of the road

Sarabia is out of contract at the end of the season, and although the club could still offer him a renewed deal, it seems less likely with each passing week.

The 32-year-old looks way off the pace, and what was once considered a poor patch of form has now become the norm.

Sarabia was linked with a move to Celta Vigo early in the January transfer window. However, with the La Liga club opting for Manchester United’s Antony instead, it seems a move to the Estadio de Balaidos Stadium for Wolves’ number 21 is now out of the question.
