Wolves will come away from Anfield feeling rather positive after a very respectable performance against defending Premier League champions Liverpool.
Rob Edwards surprised everyone before kick-off as Wolves announced that Mateus Mane and Tolu Arokodare had been given starting roles.
It was a game that saw Wolves sit deep and hope to hit Liverpool on the counter. But it just didn’t work out in the first half as two quick goals undid all of the hard work defensively.
And whilst the second half saw improvements, there just wasn’t enough from Wolves in the final third to find an equaliser after Tolu Arokodare’s goal.
Rob Edwards is now only the second manager in Premier League history to lose their first seven matches of a spell in charge of a team after Mick McCarthy with Sunderland in 2002-03/2005-06
Who let down Wolves the most vs Liverpool?
Mateus Mane’s excellence against Liverpool
Mateus Mane attracted the attention of Liverpool fans for his display at Anfield, with many tipping him for a very bright future.
His stats may not paint a particularly positive picture, but he was one of the only players to really drive forward with the ball and take the Liverpool defenders on.
It’s early days, but the signs are promising.
Let’s hope he can really kick on from here on in until the end of the season, with the opportunity to play a big part in the Championship, should we suffer relegation.
Use just one word to describe Mateus Mane’s display vs Liverpool 👏🏻
Tolu Arokodare deserves a special shout-out
Jorgen Strand Larsen was dropped amid his struggles, which saw Tolu Arokodare given the nod by Rob Edwards by himself up top.
His stats paint a clear picture, too.
He had three shots, won seven duels, with six out of nine coming in the air against the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.
The defensive work was clear too, making two recoveries and a clearance.
Jorgen Strand Larsen may have more of a natural touch in front of goal, but the Nigerian just looks in total control and brings others into the game with ease.
Agree or Disagree: Tolu Arokodare MUST be Wolves’ starting striker going forward! 🤔
He offered more up front vs Liverpool than Strand Larsen has for most of the season.
