Mario Lemina says what he ‘really thinks’ about Wolves’ 2-2 draw with Newcastle

Wolves’ Mario Lemina scored their opening goal in a 2-2 draw with Newcastle on Saturday, but he thinks they could’ve got more.

Wolves conceded to Newcastle early on with Callum Wilson capitalising on the second time of asking.

Mario Lemina then equalised after getting on the end of a divine Pedro Neto corner, although Neto later was withdrawn due to injury.

A controversial penalty was awarded to Newcastle despite not everyone agreeing that it was, with Wilson converting.

Then in the second half, Hee-Chan Hwang scored in his sixth consecutive Molineux game to secure a vital point for Wolves.

Mario Lemina gives verdict on Wolves draw

Speaking after the game, Lemina was on media duty and speaking on Sky Sports where he claimed Wolves could have actually got all three points.

“I really think we could have won the game because we were in the right position,” he insisted.

But despite thinking they could’ve won, he did add that a point against Newcastle is a good result in the grand scheme of things.

“A point against a big team who are playing for the Champions League is a good point yeah.”

Were Wolves the better side?

After Lemina’s claim, we looked at the stats to see who was closest to winning this one.

The midfielder had a point too, with Wolves seeing that crucial penalty decision go against them it could’ve easily finished 2-1.

Wolves also had the most shots on target according to Sky Sports. However, the expected goals told a different story as Wolves were outperformed by 1.19 xG.

If you took away the penalty it would’ve been a lot closer, but a draw probably does make sense in terms of being deserved. However, that won’t stop Gary O’Neil and his side from feeling hard done by.
