Liverpool face major injury doubt for Wolves clash as Arne Slot rules out key player in Carabao Cup

Wolves are in search of their first Premier League win of the season, with the fixture list increasing in difficulty.

Having played two of last season’s top four already this campaign, the Old Gold are about to be tested once more in the Premier League.

Next up for Wolves come Liverpool, who travel to Molineux for a Saturday evening showdown on match day six.

Gary O’Neil’s side are desperate to add to their single point so far, with Wolves sitting bottom of the table with little inspiration.

Key Liverpool player a doubt for Wolves clash

The battle against Liverpool isn’t going to be easy for Wolves however, there could be some luck swinging the Old Gold’s way.

Firstly, the Reds are in action in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night against Premier League rivals West Ham and will then face Wolves three days later.

Arne Slot will have to rotate his side accordingly to ensure his players don’t burn out, with the Liverpool boss already hinting at one key star’s availability for Wolves.

Ahead of their midweek test, Slot confirmed that goalkeeper Alisson will not play a part against the Hammers and remains a doubt for the trip to Molineux.

“We are looking at the weekend versus Wolves but it’s going to be tight,” Slot confirmed to the media during his pre-match press conference.

The Brazilian missed out against Bournemouth, seeing Caoimhin Kelleher start between the posts, a player who was linked to Wolves during the summer.

Wolves have to test Liverpool

While the prospect of not having Alisson available is a huge blow for Liverpool, Kelleher is by no means a bad option to take the Brazil international’s place.

Missing a key player is disappointing for Liverpool but equally, may not have an impact on Wolves, who are quite simply their own worst enemy at this moment.

Throughout the season, we’ve seen Wolves play attractive and impressive football, but never for a full 90 minutes, with O’Neil’s side collapsing particularly after the interval.

As a result, the Midlands club sit bottom of the table, reinforcing the importance of piecing together a strong performance for the entirety of a match.

Wolves were punished late by Aston Villa last time out, with Liverpool providing an even greater threat if given even a slight chance, something that O’Neil must ensure his players understand ahead of the fixture.
