Joleon Lescott reacts to Matheus Nunes' debut against Tottenham

Wolves are still looking for their first win of the season in the Premier League, after losing 1-0 to Tottenham Hotspur in north London.

Wanderers again had several good chances to score.

And at times there was some brilliant football played.

But there was again a lack of ruthlessness in the final third, and cries will now grow louder for a new striker to come in.

There was a boost for Wolves yesterday in that Raul Jimenez did make his return. And the Mexican did make a good impact when he came off the bench.

But he was unable to find the back of the net, and it is paramount that the Wolves recruitment team finds someone to come in in the next couple of weeks.

Despite the loss, there were some positives to take for Wolves. And the performance of the club’s newest signing Matheus Nunes was certainly one.

He was thrown straight into the starting XI by Lage and played 90 minutes.

He only signed a few days ago. But Nunes did not look out of place in the Premier League.

And his contributions impressed former Molineux defender Joleon Lescott, who was on punditry duty for BT Sport.

He said post-match: “He’s exciting. He drove at defenders. He created opportunities and he was positive, which is what you want to see.

“You’re going to expect that on his debut, because he’s going to be excited about playing.

“In regards to the outcome, he spoke with humility. Having that support network of Portuguese players helps as well when he’s making that transition overseas.”

Disappointing result, but a great start for Matheus Nunes at Wolves

Wanderers fans will be feeling frustrated this morning that the team didn’t get anything from the game, despite giving a positive performance for the most-part.

But Nunes’ display is certainly a positive to take from the game.

We saw glimpses of this superb ball-carrying ability. And it looks like he’ll be a really strong addition to the team.

While it’s true he already knows most of the team quite well, it will still take some weeks for him to get fully up to speed with Lage’s plans and tactics.
