Joleon Lescott gives instant reaction on TNT Sports to Wolves 3-4 Man United

Wolves’ unbeaten run is over, losing 4-3 to Manchester United in the Premier League tonight at Molineux.

Wanderers were simply all at sea in the first-half, with United scoring two goals through Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund.

In truth, Wolves were very lucky to go in at the break just 2-0 down.

Wolves improved after the break, and there was a huge slice of luck when Pedro Neto earned a penalty for the hosts. Realistically, it was not a penalty, but Wolves fans will feel it made up for the challenge by Andre Onana on Sasa Kalajdzic in the reverse fixture.

Pablo Sarabia scored the penalty but frustratingly for Wolves, Scott McTominay then re-established United’s two-goal lead.

Max Kilman gave Wolves hope late on as he tucked away from inside the box, and then Neto thought he had rescued a point for the hosts.

But United’s Kobbie Mainoo then won it for the visitors at the death to break Wolves fans’ hearts.

Joleon Lescott believes Wolves can take at least one positive from defeat to Manchester United

Ultimately, Wolves probably did not deserve anything from tonight’s game in terms of points.

United should have been out of sight early on, and sloppily allowed Wolves back into the game.

But that doesn’t stop this result from stinging, especially with Wolves somehow getting back to 3-3 in injury-time.

Despite the loss, former Wolves defender Joleon Lescott believes there was one positive in particular to take for O’Neil tonight.

He said on TNT Sports straight after the final whistle: “Yeah definitely (disappointing). Especially when you lose it late. It always hurts a little bit more. But it’s a great advert for the Premier League.

“There’s a lot of positives that Wolves can take out of that game. Being competitive and going right to the end, but obviously disappointing to lose it.”

Wolves need to improve defensively

Lescott is right to praise Wolves for their competitiveness and not giving up.

That is one thing that has improved drastically since O’Neil came in as manager. You always get the feeling that the players will always keep going and never give in, especially at home.

But overall, tonight was the worst Wolves have been for a good while, and they certainly cannot be defending like that going forward if they are hoping to finish in the top half of the table.

Granted, it was a very ‘un-Wolves-like’ performance tonight and sometimes these things can happen. But O’Neil really needs to tighten things up at the back.

Clean sheets have been hard to come by this season, and the manager now needs to solidify things. He’s found a way to get his attackers to score more goals, and now he needs to work out how to shore things up.
