In what was a huge day for Wolves and their supporters, there were also a couple of records broken at Molineux.
After months of pain for Wolves, a huge weight was lifted off the shoulders of Rob Edwards and the players after picking up three points in emphatic style.
It was a game that saw several Wolves players finally announce themselves.
Jhon Arias and Hwang Hee-chan have misfired so far this season, but something clicked today that saw both deliver a performance that we knew they were capable of.
Mateus Mane was the standout, but Hwang did a lot that went under the radar. He worked hard and got into good positions, which resulted in an assist and his goal from the penalty spot.
However, it was Arias and Mateus Mane that now have records to their name.
Has that Hwang Hee-chan performance changed your perception about the South Korean?
He rolled back the years with that display 🔥
Jhon Arias and Mateus Mane set a record
Wolves have been used to setting the worst records so far this season after going halfway through the season without a win.
But Arias and Mane helped change that.
Aged 18 years and 109 days, Mateus Mane has become Wolves’ youngest ever goalscorer in a Premier League match, surpassing Fabio Silva after his goal against Burnley at 18 years and 155 days.
Meanwhile, Jhon Arias becomes the first Colombian ever to score a goal for Wolves.
How good was Mateus Mane today?🥵
Even the Premier League's best are taking notice…
Where do Wolves go from here?
While Mateus Mane and Jhon Arias have provided the spark that led to the 3-0 win over West Ham, it remains to be seen what Rob Edwards does when Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and Marshall Munetsi return.
Under Rob Edwards, Wolves have transitioned into a more high-pressing side, where Bellegarde and Munetsi acted as the engine room, but this new way of setting up seems ten times better.
It’s times like these where you have to hurt feelings to make things work. Munetsi is a hard worker but he offered next to nothing in the final third for Wolves at times.
Mane has added that extra dimension that we haven’t seen since Matheus Cunha, while Arias’ confidence will be sky-high after scoring his first goal.
Wolves won’t have to worry too much about chopping and changing for now, though, as Munetsi and Bellegarde both remain out injured.
