I just saw 23-year-old Wolves player dominate Spurs in their own backyard

Wolves player ratings after an incredible 2-1 victory over Spurs, with Joao Gomes standing out as the pick of Gary O’Neil’s squad.

Wolves got back to winning ways in emphatic fashion on Saturday afternoon as a Joao Gomes double saw Wolves collect all three points in the capital.

It was an incredible display as O’Neil once again got his tactics spot on to see out another memorable victory against Spurs.

It was a perfect performance from the side to bounce from their poor 2-0 defeat to Brentford last week. Despite Dejan Kulusevski’s early second-half equaliser, Wolves remained confident, and through Joao Gomes, got the victory.

Now, after reflecting on the game, we rate the Wolves player with one midfielder hitting a perfect score.

GK – Jose Sa – 7/10

It was a great first 45 minutes from the goalkeeper was made his presence known in his box, claiming every loose ball. However, the ‘keeper should not be letting Spurs net the opener at his neat post and certainly by hitting the ball through his legs. However, he made up for this with a great save just 15 minutes later.

RWB – Nelson Semedo – 8/10

The wing-back had another sensational game. In a match that was very much end-to-end, Semedo made sure he covered every blade of grass. In attack, he could have easily collected an assist for an incredible ball to Pablo Sarabia. At the back, Semedo was equally as reliable, cutting out any potential Spurs attack.

CB – Max Kilman – 7/10

The captain helped keep Wolves disciplined when their backs were up against the walls. A good defensive performance was key to Gary O’Neil’s game plan. Fortunately, apart from 60 seconds of madness, Kilman helped see this task through.

CB – Craig Dawson – 7/10

After a stunning first-half performance where the defender let little go past him, Dawson would do the opposite at the start of the second period. The centre-back had to do better to ensure that Kulusevski didn’t get past him. Late on, Dawson saved Wolves as he put his body on the line to prevent a late equaliser from Spurs.

CB – Toti Gomes – 8/10

Consistent as ever, Toti Gomes was the pick of the backline for Wolves against Spurs. The defender never put a foot wrong despite some heavy Tottenham pressure. Each week that goes by, Toti Gomes continues to improve for Wolves and will clearly go on to be a top defender.

LWB – Rayan Ait-Nouri – 7/10

A creative spark on the left, you can tell how much Wolves missed his presence when he was away at AFCON. His quick passages of play and transitions really helped push Wolves forward in the first half. While he wasn’t as effective in the second, he still had plenty of impact.

CM – Mario Lemina – 7/10

While he may have been outshone by Joao Gomes, Mario Lemina still did plenty in the middle of the pitch to ensure Wolves got the victory. The midfielder, like many on the pitch, was a key component to the win and got his reward at full-time.

CM – Joao Gomes – 10/10

It was a sensational performance from Joao Gomes. The midfielder was cutting everything out in midfield which helped to stretch the game out more and allow Wolves to counter. The Brazilian then gave the visitors the lead with a sensational header which fired into the top corner of the net.

Then, the midfielder would deliver again as he fired a fantastic effort into the back of the net to restore Wolves’ lead just after the hour mark. Joao Gomes was easily the best player on the park and saw out his best performance in a Wolves shirt in a memorable performance.

RW – Pablo Sarabia – 7/10

Another assist to add to Sarabia’s collection. It was another peach of a cross from the winger which gave Wolves a deserved lead in the first half. Sarabia, should have retaken the lead for Wolves in the second half when he fired an effort straight at the ‘keeper.

ST – Hwang Hee-Chan – 6/10

It was almost the perfect return to the Wolves side for Hwang when the ball fell to him inside the six-yard box. Unfortunately, the forward uncharacteristically hit the ball over the bar with the goal gaping. After this, the forward was the quieter of the Wolves’ front three but still did plenty to help the side get the win.

LW – Pedro Neto – 7/10

Things just weren’t sticking for Neto in the first half with the winger not being able to hurt Spurs as much as he would have liked. However, the winger stepped up when Wolves needed him. Just when it looked like Spurs may score again, the Portuguese international ran the length of the pitch and crossed it into Joao Gomes to restore Wolves’ lead once more.

Sub – Jean-Ricner Bellegarde – 6/10

Should have made it 3-1 just after coming on. The Frenchman took too many touches after Neto played the ball to him in the box. If the midfielder had shot first time, he probably would have scored.

Sub – Boubacar Traore – 6/10

Helped see out the win.

Helped see out the win with the little time he had out on the pitch.
