Wolves were good on the ball and tight at the back, and on another night, may have got more than just a point.

Edwards deserves credit for the way he set up his team, which featured Jhon Arias and Mateus Mane as a pair of eights. The duo were really good, as was Joao Gomes. The performance of Arias as a midfielder was pleasantly surprising.

In the end, Wolves didn’t quite have enough cutting edge to take all three points.

But it was definitely a positive display and after the game, Sky pundit Gary Neville gave some thoughts about the Old Gold.

Wolves have tended to do OK against the bigger sides this season.

Recently, we’ve seen Wanderers go toe-to-toe with Arsenal and Liverpool, and against United Wolves genuinely did play well.

And after the game, Neville – who praised Mateus Mane during the game – gave credit where credit was due, believing Wolves were full value for their point.

He said on The Gary Neville Podcast: “Generally, I think the way that United played, I think they played into Wolves’ hands, and Wolves grew into the game with confidence.

“Wolves deserved a point tonight. Absolutely no doubt whatsoever. I’ve talked about United there, but I have to say Wolves deserved at least a point in that game. They took the ball, they created chances, Hwang had a couple in the first-half. Tolu had a really good headed chance at the end of the first-half.

“The stats were even. Possession, United shaded it a little. But I think expected goals, Wolves were on top, touches in the box, Wolves were on top. That might have changed in the last 10 minutes when United threw bodies forward. But I thought Wolves were absolutely fantastic.

“They’re going to go down Wolves. And they’re going to go down miserably it looks like. But tonight, they’ve played well in the game, and they’ve passed it around well. They’ve lacked a bit of a punch. They could have gone and won that game.

“They absolutely deserved their point here tonight Wolverhampton Wanderers.”

Wolves must replicate performance vs Man United

This was potentially Wolves’ best performance of the season so far, and the players have to now try and replicate it in the coming games.

They have to take real confidence from what they did at Old Trafford, because it was genuinely miles better than most of what we have seen so far this season.

The fact Wolves actually created several great chances was perhaps the most encouraging part.

And the defence, which featured Matt Doherty as the middle centre-back, looked really solid. It was a shame that there was no clean sheet last night, because the backline’s efforts deserved one.
