Wolves finally picked up their first Premier League victory of the season with a comfortable 2-0 win over Southampton.
While the game was far from pretty, the Old Gold got the job done thanks to goals from Pablo Sarabia and Matheus Cunha.
Much was on the line going into the fixture, with indications that Gary O’Neil could have been sacked against Southampton if another defeat occurred.
However, the hosts were able to withstand the Saints at Molineux and moved up to 18th in the table.
Yet, the result could have gone a different way if a controversial decision by VAR went against Wolves.
Southampton’s equaliser against Wolves ‘should have stood’

Wolves and VAR have never truly got along. The officials at Stockley Park have consistently made controversial decisions against the Old Gold which have cost the side points.
This has continued into the current campaign. There was widespread outrage when Man City’s late winner against Wolves wasn’t ruled out for an obstruction on Jose Sa.
However, against Southampton, Wolves did get a stroke of luck. When Ryan Manning knocked the ball into the net early in the first half, many assumed it was a fine goal.
When reviewing the incident, former referee Mike Dean questioned the decision on Sky Sports News, insisting that the original decision to allow the goal should have stood.
He said: “When It first happened, I did shout to Daws (Michael Dawson) possibly foul, and it looked a foul. When you see it again, he is just kind of like jockeying a player, just trying to kind of like blocking him from getting the ball.
“I don’t think it was much of a foul. He kind of lays into him a little bit. I think it’s very, very harsh. It looks like the foul is the other way. They should have stuck with the referee’s call in my opinion.”
Wolves deserved some VAR luck

Far too many times in recent seasons Wolves have had little to no luck with the officials.
This was most apparent in the last campaign when the club had numerous controversial decisions go against them.
However, with their backs up against the wall, the Old Gold have finally had some luck on their way to their first victory of the Premier League campaign.
With five points now acquired from their last three games, hopefully, the club are now turning a corner and will push further up the table.
