Forget Dawson… 5-duel winning Wolves ace was top-class vs Everton

Wolves were once again in phenomenal form on Saturday afternoon as they dispatched Everton 3-0 at Molineux.

Wolves continued their excellent run as they made it three consecutive wins, against Everton on Saturday.

Gary O’Neil has had the dream run over the festive period with wins over Chelsea and Brentford preceding this result.

It sees Wolves now firmly in the hunt and conversation for a top-half finish which would be massive considering pre-season expectations had them as relegation candidates.

In the 3-0 win over Everton there were a few standout performers such as Craig Dawson who was excellent on his return to action.

But it was Matheus Cunha who absolutely stole the show with his performance…

Matheus Cunha steals the show for Wolves

In a game which saw Old Gold absolutely blow Sean Dyche’s Everton away, it was the Brazilian who caught the eye as he once again played a huge role for O’Neil.

Cunha scored and assisted a goal as well – his eighth goal contribution in his last 10 games – as he continued to be Wolves’ main man.

SofaScore rated Cunha an 8.5 out of 10 and his stats tell much of the story as to why he was rated so highly.

Cunha completed two dribbles which often came from deep, while enjoying 54 touches of the ball in the game.

He made two key passes as he boasted a 94% pass completion rate which is incredibly high for a player tasked with taking risks.

He also won five duels which demonstrated that he does so much for the team beyond just being an attacking force.

Cunha will be even more important in the next month

Cunha has been pivotal for Wolves in the last few weeks, but here he has had the support of the excellent Hwang Hee-Chan.

Over the next month, he won’t have this as Hwang heads off to compete in the Asian Cup which could see the forward absent until February.

Therefore the weight on Cunha’s shoulders will be a lot heavier and he will be hoping the returning Pedro Neto can help lighten the load.

Although it’s a good month for him to be absent with just two games for Wolves to contend in January.
