Confirmed Wolves XI to face Liverpool as Mateus Mane handed his first start among four changes

Wolves’ starting lineup to take on Liverpool has now been confirmed.

After the Christmas festivities, the Old Gold return to action looking to cause an upset against the reigning champions.

Rob Edwards will be looking to avoid his seventh loss in a row, joining Mick McCarthy in unwanted territory.

However, Alan Shearer feels the Wolves head coach is not to blame for the Wanderers’ current situation.

The game will also have the added emotion of remembering Diogo Jota, with Wolves and Liverpool being the late footballer’s most prominent clubs.

When it comes to the starting XI, Edwards has made four changes, including Mateus Mane making his first start.

Yerson Mosquera returns from suspension to replace the injured Toti; meanwhile, Tolu Arokodare leads the line with Jorgen Strand Larsen on the bench.

Hugo Bueno returns from injury to displace David Moller Wolfe, with Fer Lopez dropping to the bench as well.

An unexpected win would be huge for Wolves

There is plenty of football left to be played, and while for many survival is out of the question, one good run of games can put Wolves back in contention to stay up.

However, the issue is that sort of form has not been evident, and there are no signs they can pull something like that off.

A win against the current Premier League champions could give a major confidence boost to both the squad and the head coach. That could be the sign and hope needed.

After that, who knows what can happen? There is no point going into games with a defeatist attitude, so let’s hope the Old Gold can pull off something truly special today.

At least, if it can pull them closer to avoiding Derby County’s points record, that would be a positive.
