Boubacar Kamara picks out two things that impressed him about Wolves against Aston Villa

Wolves fell to a 1-0 defeat against Aston Villa on Sunday – and goalscorer Boubacar Kamara has given Wanderers some praise.

It is two defeats in two for Rob Edwards, who watched his side pay the price for lacking a cutting edge at Villa Park.

Wolves played well for the most part in the game.

But Wolves spurned several chances to go ahead in the game, and there was also some top goalkeeping thanks to Emi Martinez.

Who do you think was Wolves’ best performer in the 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa?

And then in the second-half, Wolves fell behind when Boubacar Kamara scored.

Edwards felt Wolves should have had a foul in the build up to Kamara’s goal, with Joao Gomes falling under a challenge from Morgan Rogers.

But frustratingly it wasn’t given, and Villa took advantage of Gomes being out of commission.

After the game though Edwards outlined some positives for Wolves.

And there was also some praise from Villa’s goalscorer Kamara.

Wolves put in arguably one of their best showings of the season against Villa. Certainly in the first-half, at least.

Wanderers moved the ball really well in the middle third, and actually had Villa chasing shadows at times.

The main issue was that Wolves couldn’t score, but certainly, the Old Gold were really unlucky this time around not to take at least a point.

But the performance did leave an impression on Kamara, who praised Wolves from a defensive standpoint. He also commended Wolves’ ability on the transition.

He told Aston Villa’s media team: “They defended really well. I think in the first-half, they blocked us. And they have a good transition. So in the second-half we continued and we played more passes.

“I think the goal then helped us to open some space.

“Sometimes you win without playing good, but the important thing is the three points.”

Edwards must fix Wolves’ attacking woes

While Wolves have still been conceding goals, the defence has definitely looked better compared to the opening weeks of the season.

And encouragingly, the likes of Emmanuel Agbadou and Toti Gomes appear to be playing better now.

So that’s good news. But Wolves need to start scoring goals and quickly. Granted, Wanderers got very unlucky against Villa, with the Jorgen Strand Larsen goal getting ruled out due to Jhon Arias being offside, and Martinez having a top game.

But Wolves have got to start scoring and getting into winning positions to put the opposition under pressure.

As Kamara says, Wolves do have the ability to defend well, and are also good on the transition. But once that ball reaches the final third, that’s when there are problems.
