‘Big statement’… Wolves fans react to Vitor Pereira’s ‘huge’ Matheus Cunha snub during Tottenham clash

Vitor Pereira chose not to start Matheus Cunha in Wolves’ clash with Tottenham, but that wasn’t the manager’s only snub of the Brazilian.

Cunha isn’t in Wolves’ good books, as the 25-year-old has been making quite a noise on social media amid his suspension.

After spending four games away from the action, Pereira confirmed he wouldn’t play Cunha from the start against Spurs, due to the fact that without him, Wolves have done very well.

Ahead of his return, Cunha posted a controversial message on social media, landing himself in hot water to really test the patience of supporters.

Though Wolves have been unbothered by Cunha’s recent statements regarding his future, Pereira might be slightly less impressed, as he passed on the option to bring the Brazilian on as an early substitute against Spurs.

Wolves fans react to Vitor Pereira’s Matheus Cunha snub

Wolves supporters were delighted at Pereira’s decision to bench Cunha to honour those who have stood up in his absence.

Against Spurs, it was almost the case that home fans saw the forward return earlier than anticipated, as Jean-Ricner Bellegarde was forced off with injury.

Instead, Pereira left Cunha on the bench to bring Pablo Sarabia into the match, seeing fans react on social media.

“Not that I’m a fan of Sarabia but bringing him on ahead of Cunha is the correct decision,” a supporter said, which was echoed by many others.

“Sarabia before Cunha is huge,” another said, as reactions to the substitution came flooding in on X.

One fan said, “Strange change. Thought Cunha would have replaced Bellegarde.”

Another questioned the sub by saying, “Bellegarde injured, Sarabia coming on. Cunha?”

Even fans of other clubs commented, as a Bourneouth fan asked why Cunha wasn’t the first-choice sub, to which a Wolves supporter responded:

“It’s just Vitor sticking with the lads who’ve won three and drawn one of the four games Cunha has missed.”

Wolves fans love Pereira’s mindset and loyalty to those who have served the club admirably in recent weeks, celebrating the manager’s decisions once again.

“Hahaha Sarabia on for Bellegarde whilst Cunha watches from the bench. Vitor I love you.”

“WHO NEEDS CUNHA??? NOT ME! NOT ME!”

Another loyal supporter dubbed the substitution as a ‘big statement’.

“Big statement by VP to bring Sarabia on instead of Cunha. Definitely the right decision too at 2-0 up. COYW, see this game out now.”

Cunha decision was correct

Though Cunha has undoubtedly been Wolves’ hero on the pitch this season, away from the action, he’s painting himself to be a villain.

Cunha admitted he wants to leave Wolves ahead of the summer transfer window, as well as arguing with fans on social media to put his legacy in jeopardy.

The club comes ahead of any player, as Pereira understands, shown through his decision to leave the Brazilian firstly out of the starting XI and then to not call on him from the bench.
