Wolves’ Premier League campaign did not get off to the best start as they were defeated 2-0 by Arsenal.
It was always going to be a tricky tie for Gary O’Neil as they travelled to the Emirates.
After a poor first half which saw Kai Havertz head in an opener, Wolves improved massively in the second period. However, the visitors could not take advantage of this and Bukayo Saka eventually netted the second to put the game to bed.
The result means that Wolves have now set an unwanted record after four successive opening-day defeats.
Yet, despite the loss, O’Neil’s side caught the eye of Paul Merson who was full of praise for the visitors.
Paul Merson insists Wolves will cause problems this season

There are currently high concerns amongst the Wolves fanbase. Long gone are the days when the Old Gold were challenging for Europe under Nuno Espirito Santo, with the club now seemingly always looking over their shoulder.
These fears have not been vanquished this summer after the departures of both Pedro Neto and Max Kilman.
Yet, after the performance on Saturday, Merson has insisted that the club have more than enough quality to stay in the division.
Speaking on Sky Sports News, he said: “Before I watched today, I thought let Neto go, you know, I don’t know where they are going to get goals.
“These will cause you problems, they will cause you problems, Wolves. I like the lad in midfield, Lemina, I think he gets around the pitch, he is good.
“Wolves will be all right. I have seen enough today from other teams. I would be shocked if they didn’t finish above four or five teams in this league.”
Wolves’ performance against Arsenal should be credited

While Wolves did not pick up any points at the Emirates, their performance should be credited by the fans.
Many teams who face Arsenal this season will see five or six goals shipped past them as they search for the Premier League title.
For a good period in the second half, Wolves had the Gunners on their heels and were unlucky not to equaliser numerous times.
If the second-half display can be replicated throughout the season, a top-half finish is not out of the question.
Hopefully, consistency can be found in the coming weeks as the players find their feet.
