Despite defeat against Liverpool, Wolves came away from the game with some positives.
It certainly wasn’t the worst performance under Rob Edwards for Wolves. They set up well defensively and rarely looked troubled until the Liverpool double.
Tolu Arokodare even admitted that Wolves finally played like a team after the Liverpool loss, which speaks volumes given that Edwards made the changes that fans had been calling for.
Mateus Mane and Arokodare both started, which saw Jorgen Strand Larsen drop to the bench.
It would come as no surprise to see an unchanged side next time round for the Manchester United clash, as the Old Gold look to at least build a little bit of consistency in performance.
Agree or Disagree: Tolu Arokodare MUST be Wolves’ starting striker going forward! 🤔
He offered more up front vs Liverpool than Strand Larsen has for most of the season.
Arne Slot gives Wolves credit for the second half
It was a tale of two halves at Anfield. Wolves came out with a point to prove in the second after collapsing, and it didn’t take long for Santiago Bueno to pull one back.
Wolves kept the pressure on but just couldn’t find a way through, despite producing several chances in front of the away fans.
Strand Larsen was substituted on to play alongside Arokodare, which even had Arne Slot fearing for his side’s chances of securing all three points.
When speaking after the game (as per Liverpool), Arne Slot admitted that Wolves’ crossing and tall players had him frightened at Anfield.
Should Rob Edwards listen to Arne Slot and play two up?🤔
If not… what should he do?
What should Rob Edwards do for the Manchester United clash?
Mateus Mane has given Wolves a new lease of life in attack, so there’s no reason to change things immediately as far as he goes.
Hwang Hee-chan hasn’t been at his best this season and struggled at Anfield, so perhaps he could drop out, but then you risk changing the whole dynamic of the team.
Tolu Arokodare has certainly done enough to start again, but it just depends on whether Rob Edwards has the bravery to keep Strand Larsen out again with January imminent.
With interest in Strand Larsen from West Ham and other clubs, you’ve got to start looking at the players who may be here long term, rather than playing big-name players for the sake of it.
