Wolves made it back-to-back wins in the Premier League and Ally McCoist made sure to give striker Tolu Arokodare his flowers after the shock victory at Molineux.

Rob Edwards masterminded a second win in a matter of days, with Wolves now 11 points from safety.

Rodrigo Gomes opened the scoring for Wolves before Mo Salah equalised. But a deflected Andre strike saw Wolves take all three points against the Premier League champions.

There’s still a mountain to climb. But the last couple of results have just allowed some to start wondering if the impossible could actually be possible.

At the end of the game, Ally McCoist singled out Tolu Arokodare for his impact.

Arokodare had started on the bench for Wolves, entering the action on 60 minutes.

And it was an effective showing from the Nigerian, whose great hold-up play allowed Rodrigo to open the scoring.

And he was just generally a handful for Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate, winning three of the five duels he contested (Sofascore).

Speaking after the game, TNT co-commentator Ally McCoist said: “It’s quite remarkable, it really is. For all intents and purposes, that’s as poor a 45 minutes of football that you and I have seen, perhaps all season.

But boy when it ignited did it ignite! Great opening goal for Wolves. The big centre-forward, he did exceptionally well when he came on, and a wonderful finish from Gomes.”

Steven Gerrard dismisses Virgil van Dijk’s suggestion about Arokodare

It was good to see Arokodare making a decisive impact, but after the game Virgil van Dijk cut a dejected figure in his interview.

He was asked whether he felt Arokodare had fouled him in the build-up, replying: “There’s been a lot of speculation over the last couple of weeks about certain fouls being given and not given. The ref hasn’t given it, that’s the reality and we have to deal with it.”

Defending Arokodare, Gerrard said in response: “I don’t think it’s a foul. I think he’s got to be a lot stronger in that situation.

“You’re clutching at straws asking for a foul there. You’re up against a big strong sub who’s come off the bench. He’s the focal point, you know he’s going to be physical and try and dominate you. You’ve got to be ready for that.”

Van Dijk can’t really have any complaints, and hopefully we will see Arokodare continuing to be a handful in Wolves forthcoming games.
