Adam Armstrong has admitted he was surprised by Wolves’ league position since arriving at the club a few weeks ago.

There is a growing sense that Wolves are heading in the right direction under Rob Edwards, amid a three-game unbeaten run in the Premier League.

Last night, Wolves drew 2-2 with in-form Brentford, showing great character to come back from two goals down.

Adam Armstrong got his first goal for the club, which was deserved for the way he has started since his mid-season move from Southampton.

That contribution has come alongside a visible collective improvement in performances, with Wolves showing more cohesion in recent matches and after the game, Armstrong gave his thoughts about the current situation.

A number of neutrals were left remarking how good Wolves looked in the second-half last night.

The team have gradually been improving, with Edwards turning the team into a much more competitive outfit.

And Wolves’ situation has actually left Armstrong surprised. He admitted after the game (via Wolves official): “That’s what I felt as soon as I came in. The quality that we have, you see it every day in training and for myself, I couldn’t quite believe the position in the table.

“But since I’ve come in, the lads have been brilliant with us and it’s been positive. That’s all I can say for myself. The results have been good in the last few games, and we have to just keep on taking the positives going forward and see where it gets us.”

Sky pundit Jamie Carragher also suggested Wolves’ position doesn’t really reflect how the team is currently playing, saying (via E&S): “I’ve been saying this for a few weeks now, they are not the worst team in the Premier League, they are not.

“They are a much tougher proposition now and a lot of that is down to him (Edwards).”

Rob Edwards’ endeavour now paying dividends

Edwards’ hard work is beginning to show in both preparation and match output.

Armstrong’s comments are a clear indicator of the level being set behind the scenes, with sessions that demand consistency and sharpness.

The last three games have started to translate that work onto the pitch, with Wolves generally competing at a higher level.

It is just a shame that Wolves have probably left themselves too much to do in terms of survival.

But this team can still leave fans proud with a strong finish.
